The Lowcountry Autism Foundation exists to serve individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The Lowcountry Autism Foundation envisions a South Carolina where individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families have access to needed resources and services that positively impact their quality of life.
WHAT IS AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER?
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers
to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication affecting brain development. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated
1 in 36 children in the United States today. Early recognition, as well as behavioral, educational, and family therapies may reduce symptoms and support development and learning.
VALUES
We provide free programs to support a family from the time they suspect their child may have autism, through the diagnosis and throughout their lives. Our programs are individualized and aimed to fill a gap in services. With a very small staff and a dedicated group of volunteers we have provided over half a million dollars in free autism services to over 3,000 Lowcountry families. We are small, but mighty and all of our funds stay right here in the SC Lowcountry.
